The Coaching Cross Country course is designed to enhance the knowledge base of the student in several areas related to teaching and coaching cross country at the middle school level and above. Students will gain knowledge about nutrition and will also learn the basics of preparing training programs for distance runners. The student will also learn strategies used in racing and training. The student will be able to develop his/her own philosophy regarding the implementation of overseeing a cross country program. Course objectives are modeled after standards-based learning objectives for teachers and for coaches as outlined by the Society of Health and Physical Education (SHAPE America), and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).
